Choquequirao Trek

4 Days 3 Nights Trek to Choquequirao, it is a softer way to get, by beautiful route to the last refuge of the Incas, Machu Picchu sister, The Choquequirao Complex is located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and it is a different walk to the Inca Trail and the Salktantay routes but with fewer people. Choquequirao is located on the spur of the Salkantay mountain range, at more than 3030 masl surrounded by the Apus de Padrayoc, Yamana, Ampay, Chokecarpu, Pumasiyo and Panta, on the left bank of the Apurimac River. In the Inca era, it was united and in communication with Machu Picchu by a complex network of trails, with fantastic nature, valleys, snowy mountains and a great variety of plants, birds and animals. The hike to Choquequirao starts from the town of Cachora, which is 4 to 5 hours west of the city of Cusco. DAY 01: CUSCO – CAPULIYOC – PLAYA ROSALINA – SANTA ROSA

We leave from Cusco early in the morning by private transport. Approx. at 5:30 am. we will arrive after 2 hours we reach Curahuasi town, where you can order your breakfast (first breakfast is not included) then we continue for 2 more hours till Capuliyoc (3,200 masl/10498 feet), which is the trailhead, where we meet the rest of our trekking team (Horseman with horses) Afterwards we descend through the eastern slopes of the Andes to reach Coca Masana (2,330 masl /7644 feet). where we take a rest on the way we get our first views of the Apurimac Valley stretching below and of the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora (5,482 masl/17985 feet). temperature becomes higher and the flora and fauna begin to change. then we continue for two-hour trek downhill to Chiquiska (1,750 masl/5741 feet). Then we continue walking down till Playa Rosalina (Rosalina Beach) at 1,550 masl/5085 feet, where we will have our delicious lunch, after that we cross the Apurimac river, to walk uphill until to get our first campsite (Santa Rosa = 1800 masl/5905 feet).

DAY 02: SANTA ROSA – CHOQUEQUIRAO – MARAMPATA

Again we get up very early to start, after the breakfast, our walk to reach Choquequirao after middday. we will reach the archaeological site and we get to know it step by step, the great ability and intelligence which had the people who constructed this vestige which makes us seeing again the glorious time of Inca empire. Admiring the beauty and with our heads full of ideas, we observe dauntless the condors flying, which around 3:00 pm. appear in area of Choquequirao when they fly to higher zones. Later we take an itinerary to the Marampata campsite where we camp and after dinner we spend the night here.

DAY 03: MARAMPATA – PLAYA ROSALINA – CHIQUISCA – COCAMASANA

This day we will wake up and have breakfast then we will continue our journey, we will head towards Chiquisca descending along the same road to Santa Rosa to the beaches of the Apurimac River (Playa Rosalina) at 1550 masl/5085 feet. Today we reach Chiquisca for lunch and after lunch we continue walking up until to get Cocamasana where we will spend the night.

DAY 04: COCAMASANA – CAPULIYOC – CUSCO

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we continue to climb about 3 hours more to Mirador Capuliyoq where we can once again appreciate the majestic Padreyoq snow cap decorating the Apurimac canyon. Here also in Capuliyoc, we will have our last lunch, after which we will finally take our private transport to bring us back to Cusco on returning to Cusco before 5:00 pm. or 6:00 pm.
