Alternative walks are hiking options that are not the Inca Trail. They are much easier to book, more readily available and so beautiful and rich in history. They are also less crowded than the Inca Trail. While many of these walks offer paths made by the Incas, they are not regulated by the government and do not require a permit.
Scattered along the path there are a number of important Inca ruins, which hikers can visit.
And perhaps most impressive, the trail ends at the famous entrance to Machu Picchu, Inti Punku or Sun Gate, which offers hikers a panoramic view of the incredible Inca city first thing in the morning.
So, if it is not one to book in advance or share an experience with crowds, then these alternative Inca trail trails to Machu Picchu might be right for you.
And finally, the trail is closed in February due to heavy rains.
